Maternity Care, Babies & Children
The birth process can be a very stressful event for a baby and many factors, such as the duration of labour, position of baby and type of delivery can contribute to the patterns of strain the baby will experience.
A great deal of pressure is placed on the head, spine and pelvis, during the process of delivery. If these strain patterns are not addressed further problems may arise as the child develops.
Osteopathic treatment is a safe and gentle approach for the treatment of babies to adolescence.Increased weight bearing and activities, throughout stages of a child’s development puts more forces and strains upon the body.
Children may not report pain but as they grow their body becomes more compromised leading to the development of symptoms.
Here at Taylor & Conroy Osteopathic and Sports Injuries Clinic we specialise in the musculoskeletal care of children, placing great emphasis on alignment and posture to counteract the effects of stress placed on the body through carrying heavy school bags, sporting activities and overuse of computer.

Osteopathy has been used for many years to treat women pre and post pregnancy.
The body undergoes many hormonal and postural changes and osteopathy is a gentle and practical way of treating women with symptoms that can commonly occur during pregnancy.
As well as the physical benefits of osteopathy, patients often report feeling relaxed and having feelings of well being, which is important especially at a time when there are tremendous homonal and physical changes occurring within the body.
Common problems pre and post pregnancy:
Low Back Pain
Nerve Entrapment i.e. Sciatica, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Heartburn & Shortness of Breath
Generalised Joint & Muscular Aches
Osteopathic treatment throughout pregnancy helps to maintain the stability of the body in order to support baby as much as possible and limit the amount of stress placed on the body and prepare for labour and delivery.
Once the baby is born the mother is susceptible to injury as constant lifting, twisting and feeding, cause areas of weakness to become more vunerable to stress and injury. This combined with lack of sleep means it takes longer for the mother’s body to recover.
Our unique approach helps improve the structure of the body, enabling it to function as best as possible. The increased weight and postural strains that occur during and after pregnancy may also exaggerate pre existing structural imbalances within the body so an ante natal assesment is advisable to maintain postural balance throughout pregnancy and avoid unnecessary stress on the body.
Here at Taylor & Conroy Osteopathic and Sports Injuries Clinic, we also provide advice on ways to strengthen the body and eventually incorporate exercise routines to suit the patient during and after pregnancy based on their health history, lifestyle and levels of activity.
